My Story
"I hear you're a teacher. Have you thought about being a stage manager?"
That one question changed everything. Back in 2017, I hadn’t attended a local stage production since college and had no idea there was an active theatre scene in my own community. But as the conversation unfolded, I learned I already had what it takes: poise, practicality, organizational skills, social intuition — and, yes, a healthy love of binders and brooms. I was invited to join a local community theatre production as an assistant stage manager on the spot.
That opportunity gave me something I didn’t know I was looking for: an outlet that was both creative and instructional. I learned how to communicate with artists and understand their needs. I found new ways to bring my background in education into a completely different venue. Most importantly, I discovered the deep joy of building connection through art.
Ultimately, that’s what community theatre means to me: community first, theatre as the language we use to connect. Bringing my skills into this space has shaped me as both a person and a professional. It continues to bring me joy — to make new friends, create meaningful work, and build something together.
Nine years and fifteen productions later, I still feel like I’m just getting started. I can’t wait to make theatre — and community — with you.
